Trump Card

Trump Card

This is the third cartoon in a row I’ve done criticizing some aspect of the GOP, and probably the shallowest of the three, but I figured the image would be funny enough to make up for it.

As I mentioned in the previous update, I was trying to come up with something on Donald Trump, who, laughably, is among the top-polling possible candidates for President as rated by Republicans. I started playing with the term “trump card,” which easily lent itself to a gag. I tried to give the player in the illustration the worst Poker hand I could come up with, but by the time I was nearly finished coloring, it was pointed out to me that “trump cards” occur in games like Bridge and Pinochle–not Poker.

I also wanted to label the player with an elephant-shaped cufflink, instead of the admittedly weird letter-shaped fingernails I ended up using, but I quickly figured out that it was unlikely a player would be holding cards at a visible angle while also having his arm situated in such a way you’d be able to see the shape of his cufflinks.

One Response to “Trump Card”

I like it, but I barely noticed those nails. The joke was not lost as the metaphor for a bad hand still stood and it didn’t feel important who was holding it – Trump isn’t going to make those cards worthwhile for anyone.

“…it was unlikely a player would be holding cards at a visible angle while also having his arm situated in such a way you’d be able to see the shape of his cufflinks”
So which is more likely or natural: a cuff link twisted to the wrist-side or a hand with nails decorated to read “GOP”?
