Classacre

Classacre

I had been planning a new “fiscal cliff” cartoon just prior to the tragic events on Friday morning in Newtown, Connecticut. Suffice it to say, I felt I should shelve what I was working on and try to come up with something more serious and tasteful for today’s update, instead.

Unfortunately, I had somewhere to go over the weekend, so my time to develop something new (as well as my materials with which to do it) were more limited than usual. I hope necessity has proven to be the mother of invention, today, and the solution posted above is decent in spite (or even because) of its austerity.

Hi Terrence — I like the concept here (a lot) and urge you to rework it a little. The austerity works here, but the construction of the teacher’s arm and hand doesn’t convey the femininity or innocence of the young teacher being depicted. A child’s arm and hand (grasping a pencil?) might be even more effective, though possibly over the top. I really like the symbolism of the apple (both because of the student/teacher relationship it represents and the biblical reference to the fruit of knowledge).

In any case, consider reworking the elements into an anti-gun bumper sticker… You might actually be able to make some money on it if you had some printed!

It is supposed to be a child’s hand…
