Newscorp’s Pocket

Newscorp's Pocket

I finally have something on the News of the World phone hacking scandal. This cartoon combines the common sentiment of public servants and government agencies being “in the pocket” of big business with imagery emphasizing Rupert Murdoch’s Austalian-ness. The two government figures it depicts are British Prime Minister David Cameron and the soon-to-be-former head of Scotland Yard, Sir Paul Stephenson, alongside News of the World’s embattled executive editor, Rebekah Brooks.

I considered several other ideas before drawing the above, because even though many of them used some pretty clever imagery, they depended on NewsCorp chairman and News of the World owner Rupert Murdoch getting nailed with some personal consequences for this stuff, first. In the event that happens, I might be able to haul one or more of ’em out.
