One-Armed Bandits
I had the idea for this cartoon while I was working on this one. I was examining some gas pumps at a Costco, and it struck me that they looked sort of like slot machines. I thought the visual would be clever, and the metaphor would be an appropriate and funny way of describing the consumer’s relationship with oil speculators.

I like the comic, but have a quick correction for the text. Oil speculators exist in the commodities market, not the stock market.
It’s a great comic if it was correct. Oil prices fluctuate for various reasons and speculation is part of this price movement, but the over-riding reason why prices have shot up is that demand is exceeding supply, and producers can’t pump enough of the stuff out of the ground.
