You Can’t Spell ‘Grope’ Without G-O-P!
This cartoon refers to the so-called GOP “War on Women,” which became a major issue last Sunday when Missouri Congressman-with-Senatorial-aspirations Todd Akin said a really dumb thing.
My idea was partly inspired by this J.D. Crowe cartoon, although my own lack of an editor probably allows me a great deal more latitude with my choice of imagery.
Much like Crowe, I wanted to comment on how the Republican party has made forcing its skewed “morality” on women’s bodies a central plank of its 2012 electoral agenda: while many prominent Republicans, including likely Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, denounced Akin in public, the RNC continues to include strong anti-abortion language in its official election platform-no exceptions made for the cases of rape, incest, or those in which pregnancy would endanger the life of the mother.
Also, they’d like everyone to forget how palsy Romney’s running-mate Paul Ryan has been with Todd Akin on this subject in the past…
And how Romney has praised the “doctor” who apparently taught Mr. Akin where babies come from…
In other words, the Republican Party doesn’t really have a problem with anything Akin was saying-in fact, they seem to agree with it! Their problem is more with him saying it to people who aren’t in the club.
I just don’t see how any women could stand to continue associating with the Republican brand, at this point. It’s like a black person being in the Klan.
